In 2022, following our first commission of a work for saxophone quartet, we set one of our main commitments: to support and promote contemporary creation. Since then, we have maintained the goal of commissioning and premiering at least one work every year. In this blog post, we tell you how we have done it—and why we will continue to do so in the future.

It all began with a simple email sent to Eduardo Soutullo, a composer we were interested in and whom some of us already knew. To our surprise, Eduardo not only replied with interest, but also introduced us to a funding avenue that would prove key in the years to come: the music and dance grants from Spain’s National Institute of the Performing Arts and Music (INAEM). Thanks to his support, we obtained the grant and were able to start making our goal a reality.

On the same day that we premiered Sax Quartet by Eduardo Soutullo in Badajoz, we also had the pleasure of bringing to life the work June by María José Fontán and working with the composer.

Thanks to INAEM, we have been able to work first-hand with internationally renowned composers. In 2023, we did so with the Catalan Salvador Brotons; in 2024, with the Galician Brais González; and in 2025, with the Madrid-born Mauricio Sotelo.

In 2023, our friend and colleague at the Conservatori Superior de les Illes Balears, Pau Cladera, composed the work Danses i Festes for us.

In the present year, 2026, we have decided to launch an open call aimed at composers of Spanish nationality, in order to align more closely with our values and to champion equity in the arts. Very soon we will meet the composer who will work with us to continue developing our goal of promoting contemporary creation. In addition, in the coming years we will record some of these premieres in an album. So this is only the beginning!
