TOGETHER IN THE DISTANCE XIII – FINAL MEETING OF THE 2025/26 SEASON

We brought the 2025/2026 season to a close with the longest and most intense gathering in our history: 11 performances, extensive travel, and activities across three different countries. Although we will publish dedicated articles over the coming weeks covering each of the four major projects we undertook, this post offers a summary of everything we experienced during these remarkable weeks.

On 29 June, we began our residency as guest artists and teachers at the Vigo Sax Forum 2026 festival in Valladares (Vigo). As part of the festival, we gave a concert on 1 July.

On 2 July, we also performed in Montederramo (Ourense), marking our first concert as part of the AIEnRuta-Clásicos concert series.

After an intense first week, on 8 July we travelled to Gandía with Brais González to prepare the revival of his staged musical tale Selkie. Following several days of intensive rehearsals with Brais and theatre director Laura Moise, we concluded the Selkie tour with four performances at Teatre del Raval in Gandía (16 July 2026), Auditorio Hernán Naval in Ribadeo (18 July 2026), Auditorio da Xuventude in Cambados (19 July 2026), and Centro Veciñal e Cultural de Valladares in Vigo (20 July 2026). During this project, we also made a professional recording of the production, which will be released soon.

Our third major summer project began on 21 July, when we attended our first rehearsal with the Agrupación Musical do Rosal. Together with this outstanding wind band, we travelled to the World Music Contest (WMC) Kerkrade in the Netherlands. On 1 August, we performed the third movement of David Maslanka's Concerto for Saxophone Quartet and Band. We also joined the full ensemble in performances of José Suñer's El Jardín de Hera and John Mackey's Wine Dark Sea, achieving a score of 95 out of 100 and earning a Gold Medal in the competition's highest division.

In the early morning of 2 August, after several unforgettable days spent with the musicians of the Agrupación Musical do Rosal in Cologne (Germany) and Kerkrade (the Netherlands), we returned to Galicia. The following three days were devoted to the Música no Claustro Festival, which welcomed us to the cloister of Tui Cathedral for a very special concert on 3 August. During this performance, we gave the world premiere of Lux Glaciei by composer Irene Cantos, winner of our 2026 Composition Call. We also took part in other festival activities and attended several concerts throughout the event.

This exceptionally long gathering, during which we spent almost 38 consecutive days together, came to an end with our final performance at O Rosal Cámara Fest in the parish of Tabagón (O Rosal) on 5 August.
