Between June 30th and July 6th, the Vigo Sax Forum took place — a fantastic saxophone course held annually in this coastal Galician city. This year, we had the pleasure of taking part as teachers and performing artists. In this blog post, we’re sharing all the highlights of the experience!

On Tuesday, July 1st, we began teaching at the Vigo Sax Forum, held at the Valladares Professional Conservatory of Music. There, we had the opportunity to teach students from elementary to professional levels, as well as several chamber music groups. The new generations are coming in more prepared than ever! In addition, on our first day, we gave a talk on the work and management of a chamber music ensemble, sharing our own experience.

In the afternoon, we gave a concert as part of the course activities at the Valladares Auditorium. Surrounded by an audience full of saxophonists and local music lovers, we performed works by Eugène Bozza, Hèctor Parra, Alfred Desenclos, William Albright, and Ferenc Farkas.
On Wednesday, July 2nd, in addition to continuing the lessons, we had the privilege of performing with Ángel Soria, current Professor of Saxophone at the Higher Conservatory of Music of Navarra and a key figure in the saxophone world. With him as soloist, we played the Concerto for Oboe in D minor by Alessandro Marcello — a beautiful piece from the early 18th century. Thank you, Ángel! It was truly inspiring to spend these days with you and to perform by your side.

During the remaining days of the course, we continued with the intense schedule of classes and shared wonderful moments with other faculty and students. It was a pleasure to spend time with Roberto Pacheco, Judith Montero, Henrique Portovedo, and Nicolas Arsenijevic — excellent musicians and people with whom we shared great conversations.
This was our first experience teaching as representatives of Lítore Quartet, and we learned and enjoyed so much. We’d like to give special thanks to Tomás Alonso, who was also our teacher during our student years in Palma, for inviting us and trusting in our work. Congratulations on the sixth edition of the course, which filled the Vigo area with saxophone and culture. See you next year!
